Escape the Noise: A Quiet Nature Getaway in Ogden Valley
Sometimes the best weekend trips are the ones where you don't have much planned.
Ogden Valley is the kind of place where, instead of heavy traffic and schedules, you are met with small towns and mountain views. If you're looking for a low-key weekend in nature, here's how to spend a quiet getaway in Ogden Valley.
Ogden Valley is home to three ski resorts, Pineview Reservoir, and plenty of ways to slow down and enjoy the views. There are trails to explore and local restaurants and coffee shops to try. Just 20 minutes from Downtown Ogden, the valley is an easy escape from the busy pace of everyday life without going far.
Friday: Arrive and Settle In
The drive through Ogden Canyon is the perfect start to a relaxing weekend, with views winding through the canyon and pine trees along the river, the whole way. As the road follows the river into the valley, you'll leave behind the traffic and busy schedules that usually fill the week.
Check into the Alaskan Inn and take some time to settle into your cabin. With the river right outside your door, there's no need to rush off to the next activity. If you're looking for extra relaxation, sit outside and enjoy the view or book a massage at the on-site spa before heading to dinner.
For your first evening in the valley, make your way to Shooting Star Saloon in Huntsville. As Utah's oldest bar, it's a local favorite known for its laid-back atmosphere and simple menu. After dinner, enjoy the quiet drive back to the inn and unwind for the night.
Saturday: A Day with No Rush
Start the morning slowly. Grab a coffee and spend some time outside enjoying the fresh mountain air before heading out for the day.
Make your way to Pineview Reservoir in the morning when it's still quiet. Find a spot along the shore to read, enjoy the views, or simply sit and relax. If you'd rather stay on the move, take a drive around the Ogden Valley Loop for some of the best views of the reservoir and surrounding mountains.
Start to slow down your afternoon by going to Wheeler Creek Trail. The trail follows a creek through a shaded canyon and is a great option if you're looking for an easy walk in nature. Or head over to the Huntsville Sauna before heading to dinner. Whether you choose Eats of Eden or Ogden Valley Pizza, keep the evening simple and enjoy one more relaxed meal in the valley.
You can even end the day with some stargazing up at The Compass Rode Lodge or North Fork Park.
Sunday: Ease Back Into Reality
There's no need to set an alarm. Sleep in, enjoy a slow morning, and take in the mountain views one last time before packing up. Before heading home, stop for breakfast or coffee and take the scenic route back through the canyon. It's a simple way to wrap up a weekend that was about slowing down and enjoying what’s around you.
A quiet-cation isn't about fitting as much as possible into a weekend, but instead, it's about stepping away from the crowds and busy schedules. Build a relaxing weekend and get the reset you need.
