Ogden is kicked back along the foot of the Wasatch Mountains, a range with peaks that rise to 9,000 feet and whose face is carved by spectacularly deep mountain canyons. Inherent public access to those peaks and canyons is enhanced by a spaghetti bowl of trails known as the Ogden Trail Network, which offers boundless options for hiking, cycling, and horseback riding.
Just off the network, Ogden’s east bench is home to a lifetime of bouldering problems and sequences. Additional climbing in Ogden Canyon and elsewhere is just minutes from downtown. Nine local golf courses each showcase stunning mountain surroundings. For those looking to get their feet wet, the Ogden River runs all the way through town and converges with the Weber River at a great kayaking playground; head up the canyon for the most challenging and rewarding angling. You could also boat, swim, or water-ski on Pineview Reservoir’s glassy waters. If you’d rather have someone else guide you in any of these activities, we offer exceptional outfitting services to provide you with your adventure. We’ve been doing this for years, so why not let us help you get started?
However you define summertime, Ogden Utah offers a fantastic range of recreational warm weather attractions beckoning you to come play.
Located just west of the city center and against the Weber River, Fort Buenaventura symbolizes a period of western history that was the transition from nomadic ways of the Indian tribes and trappers to the first permanent settlers in the Great Basin. Settled by Miles Goodyear, the fort has authentic artifacts on display and hosts mountain man rendezvous re-enactments in both the spring and fall. Facilities at the fort include camping and picnic areas, a canoing pond and a replica fort.
Famed for its awe-inspiring sightlines and challenging greens, the Wold Creek Utah Golf Course meanders across foothills and through oak groves at the head of spectacular Ogden Valley, a true test of your ability to keep your head in the game. Its 7,000 + yards are a challenge to skilled players, while remaining relatively forgiving to novices, As the only Audubon Society-certified gold course in Utah, it's designed to honor alpine flora and northern Utah fauna, while rewarding golfers with playable links that stay true to the game.
These adjacent parks offer relaxation at every turn. Walk the extensive and shaded trail system, relax on a bench and watch geese, ducks and other birds. Enjoy lunch in the covered picnic area, then cross the stream to watch the kids enjoy the playground. There’s also an open grassy area for field games.
Situated at the mouth of the canyon beside the Ogden River, this park offers a covered picnic area, a playground, a walking trail and a large open grassy area. Restrooms, drinking water and a large barbeque grill are available. The Ogden River Parkway connects Big D Sports Park to the MTC Learning Park.
