Ogden Workers Train for Ammonia Safety at Superior Safety Days
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ogden Workers Train for Ammonia Safety at Superior Safety Days
Hands-on HAZWOPER training focuses on food processing and industrial
refrigeration operations
Ogden, UT, January 6, 2026, Superior Industrial Refrigeration (SIR) will host Superior Safety Days in Ogden,
January 12–15, 2026, bringing hands-on HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response)
training to local workers in food processing, cold storage, and industrial facilities that rely on ammonia
refrigeration systems.
Ammonia is widely used throughout northern Utah’s food processing and cold storage operations because of its
efficiency and low environmental impact. However, improper handling or equipment failure can pose serious risks
without proper training. Superior Safety Days equips workers with the skills needed to safely recognize hazards,
respond to ammonia incidents, and protect both people and facilities.
The multi-day training covers critical topics including hazard recognition, ammonia system components, routes of
exposure and health effects, exposure limits, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Participants also receive instruction in air monitoring and detection systems, emergency response roles, spill
prevention and leak mitigation, site control zones, and decontamination procedures.
A key component of the program is hands-on practical exercises, allowing participants to apply classroom learning
to real-world scenarios such as emergency action planning, alarm procedures, and safe work practices for
ammonia systems.
“Our goal is to make advanced safety training accessible right here in the communities where people work,” said
Eric York, President of Superior Industrial Refrigeration. “By focusing on ammonia safety in food processing and
cold storage environments, we’re helping local workers start 2026 prepared, confident, and ready to respond.”
Superior Safety Days offers both:
• 24-Hour HAZWOPER Hazardous Materials Technician Training
• 8-Hour Annual Refresher Training (required annually to maintain compliance)
The event provides a unique opportunity for visual coverage, including workers in protective gear, live
demonstrations, and emergency response drills.
