Powder Mountain Resort is thrilled to announce the fifth annual Music in the Mountains chamber music festival, from August 29th-September 2nd, 2018. This year’s festival program will include outreach concerts at local schools in the valley, a free concert at Arbor Lodge on August 31st, and two VIP Concert/Dinner experiences in the private Sky Lodge on September 1st and September 2nd.

This year’s first concert begins with a setting of P.B. Shelley’s “The Sunset,” Il Tramonto, by Ottorino Respighi for string quartet and voice. Paired with Osvaldo Golijov’s haunting Tenebrae for string quartet, and Dimitri Shostakovich String Quartet No. 8. This program explores the question of existence and the fragility of life, complemented by the exquisite and simple beauty of Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet.
On Saturday September 1st and Sunday September 2nd, following a sold-out event last summer, Music in the Mountains is pleased to present two VIP performances this Labor Day weekend. Unique musical programs each night will be paired with a dining experience crafted by Powder Mountain’s Executive Chef. Both gatherings will be located mountaintop in the Sky Lodge. Doors open at 5PM with a limited number of tickets available. Purchase tickets for $79 per person at powdermountain.com/events. Each evening will feature the extraordinary husband and wife duo of Peter and Kara Dugan, performing an unforgettable medley of songs by William Bolcom, Robert Schumann, George Gershwin, jazz favorites, and more. The weekend programs will also include works for string quartet, Bela Bartok Contrasts for piano, clarinet and violin, and the beloved Dvorak Piano Quintet.
Music in the Mountains presented by Powder Mountain Resort is the premier classical chamber music festival in the Eden area, and has quickly become a beloved part of the community’s summer landscape. In 2014, inspired by the beauty and spirit of this region, violinist and Artistic Director Michelle Ross partnered with Powder Mountain in order to bring world-class classical music to the region and create a lasting presence for the arts within the community. Artists in Residence travel to Eden each season to live and rehearse in this spectacular mountain setting, interact with the community in various outreach events, and culminate their residency by performing concerts on the very top of Powder Mountain.
This summer, Ms. Ross will be joined by renowned piano soloist Peter Dugan, his wife and mezzo-soprano Kara Dugan, violinist Grace Park, principal violist of the Utah Symphony Brant Bayless, cellist of the Solera Quartet Andrew Janss and clarinetist Mark Dover of the Imani Winds. They are some of the most in-demand soloists and chamber musicians in the world. Michelle Ross is a recipient of the Leonore Annenberg Fellowship Award, and her debut CD Discovering Bach was recently released by Albany Records. She is in great demand around the U.S. and internationally as soloist, chamber musician, orchestral leader, and composer, a recent recipient of a New Music USA grant.
