The Road to the PGA Tour Runs Through Ogden
Ogden Golf & Country Club Welcomes the PGA Korn Ferry Tour
Let’s face it, while our golf courses are well maintained and have some epic backdrops, Ogden is not Augusta or Pebble Beach. We grow some pretty good golfers on public and municipal courses. We’re the kind of place where you’ll always find a guy in work boots and bib overalls casually launching a bucketful of perfect shots at the driving range on his way home from work. The kind of place that has signs prohibiting any outside beverages being carried on course, yet the garbage can at every tee box is full of beer cans.
We like to have fun while respecting our golf. We replace our divots, repair greens, and rake sand traps, but that’s about as seriously as we take ourselves. It’s not every day that PGA pros are found en masse in Ogden.
That changed in 2025 when the Utah Championship/PGA Korn Ferry Tour teed off at the Ogden Golf & Country Club.
For those not familiar with the Korn Ferry Tour, it is a critical stepping stone to the PGA Tour. It showcases many of the future golfers you’ll soon see on Sunday afternoon PGA broadcasts. Consider this: The 1990 Utah Championship/Korn Ferry Tour champion was a young kid by the name of John Daly. The younger generation may only know him from Happy Gilmore 2.
Hosting such a prestigious event in Ogden provided locals and visitors alike with some truly unique opportunities. Of course you could just buy a ticket and catch the shuttle from the Dee Event Center at Weber State University to the OGCC and be a spectator and watch some of the best young golfers in the game rack up birdies (winner Julian Suri finished at -18), but the tournament also had abundant volunteer opportunities for course marshalls, cart drivers, player check-in, etc.
In addition to having a front-row seat to all of the action and the swag like hats, visors, shirts, etc., volunteers also received the opportunity to play a round at the Ogden Golf & Country Club after the tournament.
Course managers and country club members suspended all play on the course for 10 days leading up to the event. The result was an absolutely immaculate, lush, perfect course by the time PGA legend Tony Finau kicked off his foundation’s fundraising tournament, just before the Utah Championships.
Local media joined local pros for a preview of the course the day before the tournament started. Local, Connor Howe, who pretty much grew up playing at OG&C noted the thick, unforgiving nature of the rough and predicted trouble for any player who found himself there very often. Connor had solid rounds each day and ended the tournament at -11 and tied for 37th place. Other top locals included Cole Ponich and Daniel Summerhays both coming in at -12 and tied for 22nd place.
This year’s Utah Championship was the first of a three-year run at the Ogden Golf & Country Club. Similar opportunities to spectate or volunteer will be available in 2026 and 2027.
