APRÈS WHERE YOU SKI: OGDEN’S HOTTEST SPOTS
If you’re coming/going to/from Ogden-area resorts (Snowbasin, Powder Mountain, or Nordic Valley) from points south (SLC or Park City), your phone is going to most likely route you via Trappers Loop. That’s because your phone is a soulless piece of silicon, plastic and glass.
Around here, our phones don’t eat first. Sometimes they don’t eat at all.
Around here, we just call it “after-skiing” because the French way doesn’t quite fit.
The Ogden area has plenty of places to wind down an unforgettable day on the snow…from Powderhound Buddy Trips and Girls’ Getaways to family trips with kids of all ages,
Before you bust back south, here are the best places to get your après on:
ON-MOUNTAIN
At Snowbasin, the iconic après expérience is found at The Cinnabar inside Earl’s Lodge on the main plaza. Award-winning cuisine from top chefs, craft cocktails with locally distilled spirits and locally brewed beers on tap. You’ll get live music from top local bands Friday through Sunday and on holidays. Bring a few friends, or make a few new ones at the bar and order up a round on the shot-ski. All ages welcome, but 21+ only at the bar.
Snowbasin also has a vibrant parking lot/tailgate scene…coolers, grills, camp chairs, etc. if you’re so inclined.
At Powder Mountain, the go-to spot is the Powder Keg, especially on weekends and holidays. The grub is great, the beer flows, and live music, more often than not, gets people dancing on the tabletops in ski and snowboard boots. This is old-school, on-mountain après at its finest.
OGDEN VALLEY
Dropping down from Nordic Valley, Powder Mountain, Ogden Nordic at Northfork Park, or Snowbasin will land you in Ogden Valley where the must-visit Shooting Star Saloon serves up burgers and beer…cash only…which is cool, because you’ll need change to feed the jukebox and pool table as well. 21+ only.
If you want the true “locals only” experience, stop into the Saddlebag Saloon in Eden. If you’re lucky enough to grab a stool at the 25-person bar, it’s safe to say that the other 24 seats will be occupied by hard-working lifties, cat drivers, ski patrollers, mechanics, etc. and local residents swapping the latest gossip in the valley.
URBAN
With limited slope-side lodging options, most ski trips to our area use Ogden as basecamp. Located minutes from our resorts, this is where your after-ski options truly abound.
Historic 25th Street and the nearby Junction are entirely walkable from every downtown hotel and short-term rental. Within that area you’ll find locally owned brewpubs like UTOG, Roosters and Ogden Beer Co., a pile of our best restaurants, the majority of our bars, live music, a comedy club, multi-plex movie theaters, art galleries, small retailers, public art, museums and more.
You haven’t really skied Ogden unless you’ve après skied in Ogden.
