Ogden, Utah - An estimated 700 cycling athletes from all over the nation will descend upon the Ogden area for the USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships, September 9-12. The community is invited to participate and cheer on the cyclists.
The USA Cycling Master Road National Championships will begin with a Time Trial on September 9 at Antelope Island. The Road Race will take place September 10-11 in the upper Ogden Valley. The Road Race will begin at Snowbasin Resort, take athletes down Trappers Loop, around Pineview Dam and back up Old Snowbasin Road to the finish line at Snowbasin resort. The final event for the weekend will be Criterium Championships held downtown Ogden. Because of these races, rolling and hard road closures will occur in the Ogden area.
Time Trial Championships, September 9
Spectators will be able to travel to Antelope Island to enjoy the Time Trial Championships and explore the island. The road to the Fielding Garr Ranch on the east side of the island will be temporary closed to traffic from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on September 9.
Road Race Championships, September 10-11
There are no hard closures occurring during the Road Race Championships. From 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on September 10 and 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on September 11, rolling closures will occur on Snowbasin Road, Trappers Loop, Utah State Route 39 and on Utah State Route 158 causing delays of up to 20 minutes as cyclists travel the course. Rolling closures will temporarily allow cyclists to pass. Traffic will be allowed to cross the course during the race under the direction of race marshals at intersections. Traffic moving around the reservoir in a clockwise direction will move more quickly so this direction of traffic is encouraged. Law enforcement agencies stress that residents should remain patient when driving in the areas of the event. Everyone should drive cautiously, limiting speeds.
Criterium Championships, September 12
At approximately 6 a.m. on September 12, Ogden City will begin setting up for the Criterium Championships and close downtown streets creating a loop from 25th to 27th Streets from Grant to Ogden Avenue. The hard closure will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. The Championship will take place 7:00 a.m to 8:15 p.m.
The race will make continual laps on the following course:
Beginning at 25th Street from Grant Avenue east to Ogden Avenue > Ogden Avenue from 25th Street south to 26th Street > 26th Street from Ogden Avenue west to Washington Boulevard > Washington Boulevard from 26th Street south to 27th Street > 27th Street from Washington west to Kiesel Avenue> Kiesel Avenue from 27th north to 26th Street > 26th Street west to Grant Avenue > Grant Avenue from 26th Street north to 25th Street.
