Q. What is Ogden’s Elevation?

A. Ogden is located 4,280 feet above sea level.

Q. What is the population?

A. Approximately 238,519 in Weber County and Over 83,793 in Ogden City limits.

Q. Where is the closest airport?

A. Salt Lake International Airport is about 35 miles South of Ogden on Interstate 15. The airport is a hub for Delta Airlines, offering non-stop service to 90 major cities within more than 500 daily flights.

Ogden-Hinckley Airport currently has no airline service.

Q. How far is Ogden from…?

A. Ogden is located along the northern end of the Wasatch Mountain range and is accessible by plane, car, or train. We’ve broken down the distances to some of the more popular locations below:

Salt Lake City: 35 miles
Snowbasin: 17 miles
Nordic Valley: 13 miles
Powder Mountain: 19 miles
The Great Salt Lake/ Antelope Island: 20 miles

Q. Will I need a car for my vacation in Ogden?

A. You can manage without one. From the Salt Lake City airport you can catch TRAX to the SLC Intermodal Hub, then the Front Runner train will bring you and your gear straight to downtown Ogden. From there you can take a bus or shuttle to your destination of choice. Utah Transit Authority (UTA) offers ski bus service from downtown hotels and the upper valley condos to all three local resorts. For details on schedules and routes, visit www.visitogden.com or ask at the front desk of your hotel. Even though you can manage without one, we would recommend getting one so you can get off the beaten path to the Shooting Star Saloon and Talisman Brewing Company.

Q. What are the opening and closing dates of Ogden’s major ski resorts?

A. Because of their pristine snowmaking capabilities, Snowbasin Resort often opens Thanksgiving Day and closes mid April. Powder Mountain and Nordic Valley have opening dates between Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day and close mid April (conditions permitting).

Q. When is the best time to come out and ski/snowboard?

A. The best time to come out and revel in the snow is between February and March. During this time you can likely enjoy a snow-filled powder day followed by a bluebird powder day in the same week!

Q. What are the road conditions like in the winter?

A. Roads are typically dry and clear. During winter months it is recommended to have a vehicle with four-wheel or all-wheel drive. We are a bronze level biking community, working our way towards silver and gold! Keep your eye out for cyclists in our canyons and on main roads. Q. What will the weather be like when I visit?

A. Experiencing Ogden’s weather is one of the best parts of visiting. Ogden, Utah features a relatively dry climate with warm summer days and some of the most beautiful winters in North America. Summer highs tend to be in the upper 70’s, with July averaging 90 degrees. Annual average precipitation is 24 inches. Rainfall is fairly even throughout the year, with May being the wettest month.

Winters are cold with temperatures in the 30’s. The coldest month is January with an average low of 20 degrees. In town, the annual snowfall measures 65.3 inches, while the surrounding ski resorts boast a whopping 450 inches annually, offering over 37 feet of pristine powder just a short twenty-minute drive from town.

Layers are recommended year-round as temperatures tend to vary 20 degrees or more from day to night.

Q. I hear that Utah’s beer is all low point and the liquor laws are strict, how do I get around that in Ogden?

A. Never fear! There are some tricks to getting a stiff drink around here.

The 3.2 myth: Utah is renowned for its 3.2% alcohol by weight (ABW) beer. However, if Utah beers were measured in the same fashion as most other beers (by volume), it’s really 4.0% alcohol by volume (ABV) beer, which is just slightly (.4-.5%) less than average. The truth: The difference is nothing to cry about, Utah beers measure up. Read more about the myth here.
The membership myth: Unless there is a cover charge at the bar to see a groovy band, you don’t have to be a member to get in. Our bars compare to others around the country, don’t be afraid to hop around a few while you are here.
Do it yourself. Don’t buy beer at the grocery store, instead head over to the liquor store where you can find a great selection of high point beer and other spirits. The liquor store hours are typically 10:30-7:00 (some locations remain open until 10:00 p.m.) and are closed on holidays and Sundays, so be sure to plan ahead.
Head over to Slackwater or Angry Goat Pub and Kitchen to experience a diverse arrangement of Utah’s finest beers. Every beer on the menu is rated so you know exactly what you are getting yourself into.
Take a tour of New World Distillery and head back to the condo with a bottle of Ogden’s finest vodka that will be a great addition to your Sunday Bloody Mary.

Q, Where can I go for a run?

A. From the downtown hotels:
Head to Grant Ave. Head North to about 17th Street. There you will find access to the Ogden River Pathway. Head east or west for miles and miles of running.

If you have a car:
Paved path: Start at Big Dee Park at the mouth of Ogden Canyon and head West to the Ogden Botanical Gardens. 1375 Park Blvd, Ogden, UT 84401

Trails: Head straight up 22nd Street or 29th Street. At the end of the road you will find a trailhead. Enjoy hundreds of miles of trails.
